The Tamborine Mountain Bowls Club offers new members the opportunity to improve their health, boost their social network and even a chance to possibly add a few dollars to their bank balance.

The club, which is located at Club Tamborine, is on the lookout for new members by promoting the benefits of a sport which has been played in the area for almost 100 years.

Club President Lance Cordingley said those who come along will firstly enjoy a beautiful location – right alongside the local swimming pool on Beacon Road, with gorgeous sunset views that bring an inspiring end to a satisfying day of lawn bowls.

“Newcomers to lawn bowls will discover a sporting activity that not only offers fun and enjoyment, but also one that includes a physical and mental fitness opportunity.

“For those who want to embrace the competitive aspect of the sport they get to play in the Gold Coast bowls district which offers possibly the biggest and most competitive lawn bowls tournaments available.”
Tamborine Mountain Bowls Club play as the Taipans, a fitting moniker as their small size is belied by a fierce ability to upset more fancied opponents from much larger clubs.

Lance said the club’s next annual marquee event is the Autumn Pairs Tournament, for the coveted Dr John Vance OAM Memorial Bell trophy, on May 4.
“This tournament attracts bowlers from clubs throughout Southeast Queensland with prize money exceeding $2000,” he said.

“Our club was formed in the early 1950’s and we now boast superb facilities and a well-earned reputation for great hospitality.
“Lawn Bowls is a highly social sport, even in competition, and the game offers everything from purely social games to the possibility of playing against a world champion in the Australian Open.

“All affiliated club bowlers can enter our competitions and even better, enjoy a sport that is a game for all ages and abilities.
