A BIGGER crowd every year attends the Beechmont Anzac Day Service.
This year, it was held under cover in Graceleigh Hall as rain was expected.
The traditions and gentle progression of the service are so familiar to the families of the mountain that it was clearly a moment of light relief when the microphone did a customary bleep and squeal.
The Prayer for Peace, the Roll Call, and ‘They shall grow not old,’ together with the life stories from this year’s tributes to the men who went to war in years past, and the sweet waves of Amazing Grace washed over all of us as it has always done and never fails to rouse emotion.
The amazing efforts of the Anzac Committee who organised the day, the local QCWA and P&C who cooked and served food and drinks, the school children who practised for weeks for the choir, and who painted their tributes for all to see, all contribute to make our mountain great.
The organisations that are the glue of community are so in need of more volunteers.
If you have an hour or two in a month or a week, do make contact; you will be welcomed with open arms.
