Because our community cares

In 2021, after having a mammogram through BreastScreen Queensland, Noela Lee was diagnosed with breast cancer.

The small tumour was removed by surgery and she had follow up radiation therapy.

“I was provided with a Pink Assist package which comprised of Visa cards and vouchers for shops around town,” she said.

“When I received it I felt very embarrassed.  I wanted to give it back.  And I felt very humbled by it.”

“I was all for giving it back but I thought ‘I can really do something with this’.  All of the money I received I spent in the town.  It has covered my medications, it helped with fuel costs when I was up and down for radiation.”

Noela had six weeks off work and was unable to drive to and from the radiation treatment.  She drove herself the first day, then realised she would not be able to continue to drive.

She will be on medication for five years and continues to have regular tests but says her prognosis is very good and she is currently cancer-free.

While she said she felt there were other people worse off while she was having treatment, she remains grateful for the support of the community.

She urged other people to contact Pink Assist for help with their cancer journey.
