It was more like an amateur theatre night, but the rewards were more than theatrics.

Canungra’s Bendigo Bank Pitch night saw nine community groups perform a range of skits to share in $10,000 in funding.

Chairperson Janine Rockliff thanked the groups who attended for their service to the community.

“Without volunteers Canungra would not be the place it is,” she said.

When it was time for the Canungra Area Golf Club’s pitch, Janine added that Pitch Night would not be the same without an appearance by the ‘Fairy Golfmother’.

Like many of the groups, the Golf Club has appeared at Pitch Night several times, with their performances getting more entertaining with each passing year.

Another stand out on the night was St Luke’s Anglican Church, although the popular Wazza character, in past years played by John King, was absent but the skit was funny and earned them the money needed to have a star performer for their Christmas Carols.

The theme of the night was something that hasn’t been often asked for previously – security – with several groups pitching for security cameras and associated equipment.

All of the groups received at least half of the money they requested, with most receiving the full amount ‘pitched’ for.

Janine thanked the performers and those who came along to watch and support their friends on the night.

She also thanked the people who have supported the bank over the years, allowing them to put money back into the community.

“How can you help? Be an advocate for the bank, if someone asks you where to bank, send them to the bank in town,” she said.

“The more you support us, the more we can support you.”
