An important message from Canungra Area Golf Club’s President Mr Andrew Major regarding the future of the golf club.

Hello Community,

The Canungra Area Golf Club have submitted a petition to the Petitions Committee of the Federal Parliament. Our goal is to secure Federal Government reconsideration of the proposed divestment of land at the Kokoda Barracks that directly affects the Canungra Area Golf Club. We are seeking a clear pathway for the facility’s continued community operation through genuine consultation with Defense and all relevant stakeholders.

In the coming weeks, we will be calling on the community to stand with us.

The land in question (Canungra Area Golf Club), sits alongside the rugby league fields and associated facilities. These fields have remained idle for years. A more constructive and community-focused outcome would be for local government to step in and lead the planning for future sporting and recreational opportunities in Canungra. This land has the potential to be repurposed to expand and diversify the sporting options available to our community.

Without strong community support, it is highly likely that the land will be repurposed for development. Once it is gone, the opportunity to shape its future will be gone with it – leaving us only to reflect on what could have been.
