April is a month of celebration for Canungra Books and Art.
Opening on April Fool’s Day in April 2017, the eclectic bookshop has steadily grown in popularity with people visiting from throughout the region and travellers from all parts of the globe.
The bookshop is hosting a drinks and nibbles birthday event on Friday April 11 from 5pm to 7pm.
Everyone is welcome to come along. A chance for local authors, artisans and booklovers to catch up for a chat.
“It has been a wonderful journey” said owner Jan McGregor.
“It was a big leap into the unknown but it continues to be a real joy creating an environment that people love to visit and a nourishing escape from our busy lives and the challenges of today’s world.”
The bookshop is housed in one of Canungra’s early township houses built in the 1940’s and is still largely in original condition providing an old-world atmosphere for the books, art and vintage/pre-loved clothing.
Over the years it has built up an amazing collection of books including rare antiquarian collectibles to popular contemporary books.
“A big thank you to all our local customers and followers who have helped us through the challenging times,” said Jan.
“I say to people you never get rich running a secondhand bookshop but you have wonderful conversations and lots of laughs”.
“There’s a pleasure in seeing people’s smiles and hearing their lovely comments when they visit. A visitor from the UK once said to me ‘this shop wouldn’t be out of place in Charring Cross Road (London)’, which I thought was a pretty good compliment”.
If you would like to come along on Friday 11 April, please RSVP by text to Jan at 0418 792 161, email to admin@canungrabooksandart.com.au, or message to Facebook (for catering purposes). Follow facebook for updates.
