During May we hosted several Club Championship finals and we saw some well fought matches amongst our members.
Saturday May 9 Ladies Pairs. Jodie-Anne Boulden and Natalie Bell played against Karin Zieke and Wendy Colman.
It was a great day but as always there can only be one winner.
Jodie-Anne Boulden and Natalie Bell walked away with the title of Ladies Pairs Club Champions for 2026 with a score of 24 to 13.
Congratulations and well played both teams.
We also saw the finals of our Ladies’ and Men’s Singles Club Championships.
Merle Wortel played against Amanda Thorogood with Merle coming out on top with 25 to 11 taking the crown to become Ladies Singles Club Champion 2026.
We congratulate Merle on her win.
The Men’s Singles Club was also played.
Our Club President Peter Shoebridge was up against Neil Day.
This was a great game between two experienced players but ended up with Neil defeating Shoey 25 to 15.
Congratulations to Neil Day becoming our Men’s Singles Club Champion 2026.
As with all our champions we wish you all well in the District games, and we look forward to cheering you on as you represent our club.
Our 2026 Ladies Wall Plaque continued to be played on Thursday May 14 when we welcomed Southport Ladies to Canungra.
Although the rain was threatening all morning we managed to play 14 ends but finished early, and declared Southport the winners of the day on 46 to Canungra’s 28. Congratulations to Southport on their win.
On Sunday May 17 we welcomed back Tweed Heads Touring Bowlers for their annual social day.
The weather was kind to us and we had a great day of bowls with a full green of players.
Overall Canungra won the day on 132 to Tweed’s 103. Canungra will travel to Tweed later this year for a rematch.
On Sunday May 24 the sun was out again for our Chicken and Prawn Day sponsored by Bendigo Bank.
Round One winners on 2+10 Tamborine Mountain team. Salli-Anne Walding, Mike Goode, David Batholomeusz, Darren Wading.
Runners Up on 4+17 Helensvale/Canungra Team. Ian Bell, Peter Hearn, Mark Passante, Alan Cumberford.
Winners on 4+29 Beaudesert team were Sherry Bradley, Hamish Tilney, Mark Tilney, Kevin Bradley.
It was great to see so many visiting teams enjoying our green, with two teams traveling from Bribie Island.
A delicious lunch of chicken and beautiful prawns were enjoyed, and several members of Bendigo Bank, our sponsors, attended to present the prizes.
Unfortunately, due to the weather only a few games of Paddle Pop pairs have gone ahead.
Winners Pairs during May were Michael Bray 4+42, Bob Kirkright 4+33 and David Free 4+35.
Congratulations to all winners who each took home a gift voucher generously donated by our sponsor, Canungra Hotel.
Paddle Pops Pairs is played each Wednesday 9am for 9.30am start (weather permitting).
Open to anyone who are interested in learning to play or bowlers preferring a social game during the week.
