THE Canungra Owls Under-9 Yellow team has kicked off another memorable season complete with drama, determination, and a dramatic plot twist worthy of a sports movie.
The young Owls followed a familiar flight path: a rocky first round, followed by a surprising and impressive bounce back.
In Round One, Pacific Pines handed the Owls a tough 13–1 defeat.
But just a few weeks later, the same two teams met again and this time, the Owls showed up with feathers ruffled and focus sharpened, fighting their way to a thrilling 2–2 draw with Levi Kennedy and Braylen Wooldridge, each finding the back of the net with key goals that helped secure the result.
“It’s becoming a bit of a tradition,” said Coach Mark Vicary.
“We take our lumps early, then come back stronger and a lot louder! We’re a second-half-of-the-season kind of team.”
The improvement on the pitch has been matched with a dramatic improvement at training—working on both footwork and minds.
The second match of the double-header weekend saw the Owls face off against Broadbeach United in what turned out to be a high-scoring showdown. After an intense first half locked at 3–3, the Owls soared in the second, turning on the afterburners to secure a dominant 12–4 victory.
Goal scorers included Levi Kennedy with a sensational seven-goal haul, Indi Jackson netting a classy hat-trick, and Hendrix Simunek adding one of his own to the tally.
With more games ahead and momentum building, the Canungra Owls Yellow are proving that perseverance and a little community spirit can turn any season into a soaring success.
