As Sophia Eldridge guides her younger brother James to Canungra’s cenotaph to lay a wreath, they are carrying on a tradition passed down through generations.
Pinned to Sophia’s t-shirt are medals earned by her great-grandfather, Warren Brown.
Kyle’s parents, Vicki and Stephen Eldridge (both of whom are now deceased), were also veterans and proudly marched in Canungra on Anzac Day for many years.
They were also heavily involved withe the Canungra RSL Sub Branch.
This year Kyle’s siblings Molly, Pearce and Taylor wore Vicki and Stephen’s medals as well as those of their other grandfather.
Sophie said wearing her great-grandfather’s medals and her involvement in Anzac Day made her feel confident.
“Laying the wreath that I made for Narnie (Vicki) made me feel happy and proud of my family and their history.”
For Sophia, James and all of the Eldridge family, Anzac Day remains a day of tradition, respect and remembrance, as it is for so many Australians.
