CHAIR YOGA AT TMCCA

Dragan birthday celebration after Chair Yoga Class with Kathy Cook and other participants at TMCCA

With ageing comes a decline in mobility and difficulty with balance. Our senses may weaken and this could determine our response to the environment.  The five senses are our only channels available to perceive the physical world outside; besides allowing us enjoy life, they help keep us safe. It is important to maintain them. A daily practice is essential to staying healthy. How effectively we maintain our body, mind and energy systems will determine how resilient we will be toward any illness. But you already know that.

Yoga could be that daily practice that helps sustain a holistic lifestyle.

The word ‘yoga’ is derived from the Sanskrit root ‘yuj’, meaning ‘to join’ or ‘to yoke’ or ‘to unite’.

Canungra Law

According to the Yogic scriptures, the practice of yoga leads to the union of individual consciousness with that of the Universal Consciousness, indicating a perfect harmony between the mind and body, Man and Nature.

Chair Yoga improves flexibility, strengthens muscles, improves posture and balance, helps blood circulation, improves joint function, stimulates brain function and improves lung function – just to name a few.

Physical and mental stress may be managed helping calm the mind and relax the body.

Kathy guides participants through these Chair yoga sessions in her signature style – graceful and joyful, while respecting the ‘stillness’ within.

Usually, when clients complete a chair yoga session, they step into their day consciously. Today’s session ended differently.

It was Dragan Miljkovic’s birthday and he brought a delicious Black Forest cake to share with the group.

We sang Happy Birthday to Dragan and we enjoyed the cake, which sweetened up the morning.

Then we went out, to seize the day!

Chair Yoga is held regularly on Tuesday and Wednesday mornings (8:45 – 9:45 am) at TMCCA, 42, Southport Avenue, Eagle Heights.
