Christmas has come early for 32 community groups across the Scenic Rim.

Beechmont Tennis Club have received funding to go towards painting the posts and rails of the tennis courts, a grand total of $5,000.

This follows two grants the club had received in 2015 and 2022 to upgrade the original courts built in 1985 from near unusable to pristine grass courts.

Dr Peter Clark, who has played tennis since he was only ten, became the Club President in 2014.

Since then, he has done amazing things for the grounds.

From a renovated club house to refurbished courts, Peter is very proud of the work that the committee has overseen.

“We’d have the best tennis club in the Scenic Rim,” he says.

“The posts will look a lot better!” says Lynne Moore, Club Secretary. “The upgrades will protect it from rust, and it will match everything else.”

The club holds activities almost every day of the week, with social and competitive games, women’s only nights and training and fitness sessions.

Some of the activities are subsidised by Scenic Rim Regional Council, making them more affordable for participants.

“Because of our activities we can’t do the painting till Christmas break,” says Peter. “It’ll be a two-three day job.”

“We’ve always got ongoing maintenance,” says Lynne, “we’re hoping to get some paths concreted too.”

Over the years $100,000 has been raised by the Club. This may seem like a lot, but simple grass courts cost $28,000 each.

Peter is looking forward to the future of the club.

“We’re at the stage where we need more tennis courts,” he says.

The grounds lie in 24 acres of bush owned by the Queensland state government that are controlled by council. The tennis grounds were donated to the community for sports purposes and the rest for environmental usage.

The club is hoping to make more courts and expand the range of sports offered, including pickleball.
