THE Tamborine Mountain Botanic Gardens will be able to repair the Hillside Viburnum Walk thanks to a $20,000 Major Community Grant from Scenic Rim Regional Council.

The walk leads from the orchid and fern house to the Rainforest Walk, offering great views back to the lake.

The path is 180 metres long and 1.2 metres wide and suffered water damage from the heavy rain in the past few years resulting in large cracks and erosion of the edges, making it unsafe.

Tamborine Mountain Botanic Gardens Incorporated president Greg Ingold said: “It is our aim to make the gardens accessible to as many people as possible, so it’s important our paths and walkways are in good condition.”

The total cost of the repair project is $30,000. The additional $10,000 has been raised from funds received through the Potty Potters plant sales and generous donations from visitors.

Work will commence as soon as possible using local contractors, where available.

Greg also welcomed the news the Scenic Rim Regional Council had purchased land to increase carparking for the gardens, which he said would take traffic off the street.
