Canungra Town Master Plan Endorsed
The Canungra Town Master Plan was endorsed at Council’s June Ordinary Meeting and I would like to thank those community members who were a part of the Masterplan committee and/or provided feedback through the community consultation process.
There were 212 submissions received, which shows just how passionate people are about the future of Canungra.
While the plan doesn’t directly address the ever increasing traffic congestion in Christie Street, as this is a state controlled road, Council will continue to advocate on behalf of the community to the Department of Transport and Main Roads until a real solution is found.
Canungra School of Arts Hall celebrates 70 years
On July 3, the Canungra School of Arts Hall celebrate its 70th birthday with an enjoyable evening of community connection, music and memories. The Hall has been a gathering place for our community over the decades and I would like to recognise and thank all those who have helped to maintain and improve the hall over the years, and in particular the current committee for acknowledging the 70 year milestone!
Happy 5th Birthday to the Canungra Men’s Shed
Congratulations to Col Ford and team at the Canungra Men’s Shed who recently celebrated their 5th year of operation.
A community based not for profit organisation, the Men’s Shed provides a welcoming space for men to connect, socialise and work on projects together.
The Men’s Shed meet Tuesday and Thursday mornings at the Sport and Recreation Grounds on Coburg Road.
Canungra C3 Combat Challenge
I put in a few hours volunteering at the Canungra C3 Combat Challenge at Kokoda Barracks recently.
Fifty-three teams of four completed 7km and 10km adventure courses that included elements of the obstacle course that defence personnel complete while training at the barracks. It is a very authentic experience for those that enjoy a challenge.
The event raised over $80,000 to support Legacy Brisbane and the families of Australian veterans.
Almost all of the teams came from outside the Scenic Rim, and it would be great to have some local teams involved in the future!
