Thank you to the dozens of selfless people and organisation members who have volunteered during the clean-up operations post Cyclone Alfred.
There are too many to name individually, however Arran Hassell deserves special thanks for his co-ordination of recovery operations, public meetings and community group responses.
Bike path – A Current Affair segment March 22, 2025: Yes, this is a great idea and good to see both ends of the age spectrum taking up the cause. Who would like to hazard a guess at the cost of 7km of bike paths? This will be a topic for consideration in Council’s upcoming budget deliberations.
Have your say: The following development applications are currently open for public submissions either in support of or opposed to the proposed developments, both of which are for dual occupancies. Submissions close 04/04/2025.
- MCU25/018 Dual occupancy 102 Beacon Road
- MCU25/016 Dual occupancy 35-47 Bartle Road
30 Kidd Street: Living Gems proposed retirement village. The developer will be holding an information session for residents of Kidd Street only. I have suggested that perhaps the invitation be extended to the potentially impacted property owners in adjoining properties located in Geissmann Drive, Coleman Square, North Street and Park Lane.
Replacement bins and 10c container baskets: These were installed at the Hang-gliders site and on Gallery Walk on March 22. Public waste bins are now for general waste only as recycling bins have been replaced due to contamination of recycling waste by food waste which rendered the recycling bins useless. The 10c container baskets will ensure that eligible items are kept separate and not end up in landfill. Anyone is welcome to remove the ten cent items and retrieve the refund for themselves or their community group.
Unlawful camping/overnight stays: Lower public carpark off Macdonnell Road. There have been reports of human waste being left there. There are no public toilet facilities. This has been reported to Council as a health risk.
I did not think that I would see the day that I would need to initiate legal action against a local resident for posting defamatory and libelous comments about me on facebook, however, sadly, that day has come. A letter has been sent to the person by my solicitor and any repeat of this behaviour will result in prosecution.
Facebook admins are reminded that they are ultimately responsible for the content published on their pages. Admins need to be across their obligations in relation to facebook’s Community Standards and the Defamation Act 2005 (Qld). I now know too much about both. I have been at the Recovery Hub for eight and a half of the past nine days and could not really afford to take time out to deal with this issue.
Thank you: Thank you to the many residents who have emailed, phoned or texted to pass on positive comments about the work Council, DRA and the Chainsaw Warriors have done. Much appreciated.
