THE Canungra Master Plan Committee has been finalised with the first meeting planned for later this month.
A number of locals with a variety of qualifications and backgrounds have put their hand up to be part of the committee.
I’m very much looking forward to working with the group to develop a plan for the future of Canungra that will guide future development and the associated infrastructure that is desperately needed as our town grows.
I have been advised that the following infrastructure works are scheduled for completion at Moriarty Park in the coming months:
- Resurfacing and lighting upgrade for the tennis courts
- Field lighting upgrade for the playing fields, and
- Playground repairs/upgrade
As always these projects are subject to weather and contractor availability but will be completed as soon as possible.
At the time of writing, I’m monitoring the progress of Tropical Cyclone Alfred as it moves down the Queensland coast.
Always remember the golden rules of disaster management; be prepared and have a ‘What If’ plan, have an emergency pack with essential items in case power and/or communications are lost, and if it’s flooded forget it!
Just a friendly reminder to sign up to Council’s Disaster Dashboard to ensure you are prepared in case of a disaster.
It was an absolute pleasure to attend and support the Night 2 Unite event that was held at the O’Reilly’s Canungra Valley Vineyard.
The evening was a fundraiser for the Mark Hughes Foundation (Beanies for Brain Cancer) and Variety Australia that supports kids and families facing challenges through sickness, disadvantage or living with a disability.
A number of sports stars were in attendance, including former NRL star, brain cancer survivor, and founder of the foundation, Mark Hughes, Olympians such as swimming stars, Kaylee and Taylor McKeown, and a number of Paralympians who have benefited from support provided by Variety during their sporting careers.
The event was organised by Canungra locals, Scott Carter and Sharon McKeown, with valuable funds being raised for two very worthy causes and enjoyable evening had by all in attendance.
