Voters in the federal electorate of Wright, which includes Mount Tamborine and surrounding areas, will head to the polls on May 3 this year as part of the 2025 Federal Election.
The seat has been held by Liberal National Party MP Scott Buchholz since its creation in 2010, who will recontest the seat, which he currently holds with a margin of 10.9 per cent.
In the 2022 election, the LNP recorded a two-party-preferred majority in 59 out of 62 polling booths, with particularly strong results in rural areas like Tenthill and Helidon.
Labor’s best showing was in the growing residential area of Yarrabilba.
Mr Buchholz will face seven challengers this year, representing a mix of major and minor parties.
The candidates, in ballot paper order, are:
- Natalie Davis – Pauline Hanson’s One Nation
- Nicole Thompson – The Greens
- Julie Rose – Family First
- Scott Thompson – Trumpet of Patriots
- Scott Buchholz – Liberal National Party
- Pam McCreadie – Australian Labor Party
- Chloe Leeanne Snyman – Animal Justice Party
- Justin McGuiness – Gerard Rennick People First
Early voting for the electorate will be available at 6 William Street, Beaudesert; Jimboomba Community and District Hall; and Beenleigh PCYC.
On election day, residents of Mount Tamborine and surrounds can cast their vote at several local venues, including Tamborine Mountain State High School, St Bernard State School, Canungra State School and Tamborine Memorial Hall.
Wright covers a large and diverse section of south-east Queensland, stretching across 7,577 square kilometres.
The electorate includes the communities of Beaudesert, Jimboomba, Boonah, Laidley, Canungra, Mount Tamborine and parts of the western Gold Coast and Lockyer Valley.
Wright remains a safe LNP seat and this election will serve as a litmus test for how minor parties and independents perform in regional Queensland.
