Embattled Beechmont cafe, The Flying Bean, will close its doors permanently at the end of May.

The cafe moved from the previous location after the land was sold, to take up residence in the Headmaster’s Cafe at the Old School Site on Beechmont Road in September 2025.

Owner Ou Russell, said closing was their decision.

“We really wanted to make this work and gave it everything we had,” said Ou.

“We did have support form some committee members, which we appreciate, but many important matters still had to go through the wider committee, which made planning for the future difficult.”

“In the end, it became too hard to see a stable long-term future here.”

Ou’s husband, Ron, said he is getting their boat ready and looking forward to spending time fishing.
