Flood camera for Coburg Road

COBURG Road, Canungra, has been included in a series of flood cameras to be installed across the Scenic Rim.

Cameras were placed along Coburg Road, the school zone on Macquarie Street at Boonah and on Churchbank Weir Road at Peaking Crossing during April and are now operational.

Scenic Rim Local Disaster Management Group Chair Councillor Stephen Moriarty said the installation of the new cameras was another step towards helping the community to stay safe.

“These new flood cameras will further improve Council’s ability to monitor conditions, allowing the Local Disaster Management Group to respond swiftly and provide more timely warnings to the public about flooded roads,” he said.

“Queensland boasts some of the best weather in the nation, but storm season brings its challenges, especially with the risk of flash flooding.”

“While we can’t prevent severe weather, we can control how we manage its impact.”

Scenic Rim’s Transport and Infrastructure Portfolio Councillor Duncan McInnes said Council is committed to continuing to deliver vital infrastructure.

“This technology will provide more up-to-date information, enabling motorists to make better decisions and reduce their risk of being caught in dangerous situations,” Cr McInnes said.

The cameras, mounted on independent poles along roadsides, are remotely managed and monitored by Council’s flood management team.

Static images will be accessible to the public through the Scenic Rim Disaster Dashboard website, https://disasterdashboard.scenicrim.qld.gov.au.
