THERE were two reasons for the Biddaddaba Creek Action Group to celebrate recently.

Their membership drive and open day drew a crowd of enthusiastic locals willing to join the group and help out, but the timing was incredible.

After over 30 years of lobbying by the Group, the State government announced funding to reshape and seal the unsealed gravel section of Beaudesert–Nerang Road between Mundoolun Connection Road in Wonglepong and Biddadabba  Road in Biddadabba.

A Transport and Main Roads spokesperson said works will start at the intersection with Elysian Fields equestrian facility, heading west towards Biddaddabba Road.

“To improve sight visibility for motorists, modifications to the crest at the top of the hill will be required, along with tree clearing, vegetation removal and formalised line marking,” she said.

Biddaddaba Action Group committee member, Robert Cawley has been sending hand written letters urging the government to seal the road since 1989 and was somewhat relieved to hear that work will commence in the coming months.

“I hope I get to see it in my lifetime,” he said.

Early works include relocation of telecommunication and electricity services and project works are expected to commence from late 2024, subject to weather, contractor availability and the completion of the service relocations.
