Here we are again, through to another year.
I remember writing the first article of the year last year, when there was so much for everyone to work through and sort out.
It was so overwhelming and certainly made us appreciate the necessities in life – food, shelter, running water and a helping hand when needed.
Over this last year, whilst hanging out with the many young children that are now part of the Physique family, it has really reminded me what an absolute adventure life is to them.
Everything is amazing as they discover new things.
Watching their faces of awe and wonder as they experience things is such a gift. It seems like when you are young, starting to grow into an adult and setting out on the journey of life, heading to whatever avenue you start – work, study, travel – there is a sense that soon you are going to know a whole lot and probably just about everything about everything to be honest.
I think the older you get – the more you realise that you can’t possibly know everything and how much there is you don’t know.
Although initially this thought is a little overwhelming, it can elicit the wonder and awe like being a child again.
Life is always going to be filled with things we must do and challenges to face – cleaning, grocery shopping, lawn mowing, bill paying, health issues etc, but there are so many things happening around us all the time that are amazing.
I am so grateful to my patients for reminding me of this every day I go to work.
I have learnt so much from them.
Over the last couple of years I have learnt how to grow roses – that’s a miracle believe me; I have learnt how to groom my dog – and this is why she now goes to a groomer – but at least I had a go; I learnt about Numismatics – I didn’t even know that word existed let alone know how to pronounce it or what it was (and if you don’t know, go look it up); I got to cuddle some tiny ducklings and learn about silk worms; I now know how to make trifle – although it may not have turned out exactly as recommended; and I found out about the latest research in various topics.
Pretty soon I realised that I don’t think I will have enough years left to learn all the things that are interesting to learn.
So although it can seem that it’s the big things in life that count the most – like finishing a degree, getting your dream job and so on, I encourage you for the year ahead to focus on the small things every day that add up to make you grateful to be here and that give you joy – like the interactions that you have, the little things you notice and the opportunities you have to learn new things – like how to grow roses.
