TAMBORINE Mountain residents are being offered the opportunity to improve their cognitive capacity through a series of free workshops on the mountain.
Mary Williams, from Building Brains, has over 35 years experience as an educator, counsellor, therapist and trainer and six years as a cognitive coach.
Mary has designed the Cognitive Health Program which runs for one hour a week over eight weeks and Mary says the course can literally change people’s lives.
She can help participants unlock their learning and thinking potential, and improve cognitive, emotional and problem-solving skills.
“Many of the risks for cognitive decline can be addressed with lifestyle changes and by implementing the six pillars of Cognitive Health (Harvard Health),” says Mary.
“The aim is to increase the percentage of the aging population who have this knowledge and skills so they can proactively manage their cognitive health skills as they age.”
Cognitive coaching teaches people about their brains, neuroplasticity and the opportunities they have to improve their thinking and problem-solving skills.
Through a series of activities and training experiences, people develop tools and strategies to improve their cognitions (thinking).
Cognitive coaching can be beneficial for people of all ages and at all stages.
There is no cost for this course, which is sponsored by Scenic Rim Council’s Be Healthy and Active Program and begins on Monday February 2 at Tamborine Mountain Library from 9am to 10am.
Registration is essential as numbers are strictly limited.
Participants can register by contacting Mary on 0402 903 620 or email mary@buildingbrains.com.au.
