Jelly Fungus – Dacryopinax spathularia, roadside, Eagle Heights.
The fungus was one of at least five species growing on a tree stump I photographed following a morning walk three weeks ago.
It had suddenly sprung to life thanks to the rain after cyclone Alfred in March and some ensuing warm, sunny days in early April.
There are fifteen species in the genus, mainly found in tropical and subtropical parts of the world.
This fungus is widely distributed globally, but is not found in Europe. It is edible and used as an additive in the food industry.
