Scenic Rim business owner, Keer Moriarty, today announced her intention to nominate as a candidate for Division 2, Scenic Rim Regional Council at the Queensland local government elections on 28th March 2020.

Keer is the Editor and owner of The Canungra Times newspaper.  In addition to running her business and raising two children, she is heavily involved in community work.

“My association with The Canungra Times has led to a real passion for working for the community,” said Keer.

She was involved in the establishment of the Canungra Chamber of Commerce, the revitalisation of the Canungra Show Society and was one of the driving forces behind the Canungra & District Community Bank, which will soon open a Customer Service Centre in Beaudesert.

Keer first moved to the Scenic Rim (then Beaudesert Shire) in 1996 and has lived and worked in Beaudesert and Canungra.

“I have formed strong links with people and community organisations throughout the region,” she said, “I believe the people in Division 2 need a Councillor who will work very hard and be connected to the diverse communities in that Division.  That is what I thrive on – hard work and connection.”

“If elected, my goal will be to remain engaged with residents throughout the Division, from Veresdale Scrub, Gleneagle through Tamborine Village, Tamborine Mountain, Wonglepong and everywhere in between; and represent their concerns at Council level,” she said.

The population growth predicted for the Scenic Rim makes planning and infrastructure issues Keer sees as paramount to maintaining the rural lifestyle that residents value.

“Good planning is essential to keep our region attractive to residents and visitors,” said Keer, “We also need to ensure that we have infrastructure in place to maintain the amenity for residents and cater for people moving to the area.”

“I want to work with the community and other Council representatives to get the best possible results for Division 2 and for the Scenic Rim,” she said.
