HARD hit by winds and rainfall, the Beechmont community have been without power since Thursday afternoon and the roads up and down the mountain are in varying states of accessibility due to fallen trees and debris.

Some locals are out and about with chainsaws, assisting groups such as the Beechmont Rural Fire Service to clear debris and enabling access up and down the mountain.

The small community has been faced with many natural disasters over the last few years and is well equipped to support each other when access is difficult.

Local cafe, Flying Bean, put out a call today to locals.

Owned by Ron, Ou and Daniel Russell, the family-run cafe has maintained power over the last few days through the generosity of another local, enabling them to run their fridges and freezers.

They posted today on their Facebook page to let people on Beechmont know they can access household essentials, from the cafe, including:

  • Fresh Milk (Full Cream, Skim, Lactose-Free)
  • Plant-Based Milk (Oat, Almond, Soy)
  • White Sourdough and Brioche Buns
  • Bacon
  • Fresh Veggies (Lettuce, Tomato, Spinach, Broccoli, Zucchini, Carrot, Onion, Avocado)
  • Hamburger Patties (Frozen)
  • Chips and Hash Browns (Frozen)
  • Toilet Paper (just the BIG rolls)

“We’re here for you, and this isn’t just about making some extra cash. We genuinely want to help you out so you don’t have to make that trip down the mountain for essentials,” the post said.

From the Beechmont RFS to the CWA and local businesses, this is an area that time and time again has shown the strength of community.
