Struggling Coomera lifeblood piped into town?
“B!!@!?*!! to that” says a groundswell of objectors who are beating war drums against, not playing pipes to herald in the prospect – “everybody and his pet platypus knows that the river can’t do it – why is BSC trying this on”?
The last Canungra Times carried on page 31 a report by Michael Cowan of Canungra Area Development Association of a spontaneous meeting at Sharp Park of more than 50 concerned residents who’d been alerted virtually overnight to the discovery of an application by BSC to DNR&M for a licence to pump 400 megalitres (a supply for nearly 5,000 domestic users) per water year from the struggling Coomera River (which stops and is subject to restrictions in every recent year) for Canungra town supply.
Mike has advised Canungra Times that “it’s been a busy month”, and that “this issue has legs”, and this is his update ….
As previously reported, the energetic meeting at Sharp Park was with councillor Virginia West to (in the oft’ reported words of Pauline Hanson) “Please Explain!!!” She came, which is commendable, because as she openly admitted she is not a (technical or strategic ?) expert on the issue. She undertook to try to bring a water expert from DR&M to address a follow-up meeting in about two weeks.
