Wonglepong QCWA 80 years on!
Wonglepong… the area we all know but outsiders refuse to believe exists! The earliest landholders were Hugh and Tom Mahony (1867) and Henry Franklin (1872), both families owning from the Creek to the top edge of Tamborine Mountain.
The earliest “community” facility in the area was the Canungra School opened in 1884 (plaque onsite in Henry Franklin Family Park). This school reserve was part of a larger area reserved from the earliest days of District settlement as a rest camp for the bullock teams hauling wagons of logs or sawn timber to Logan Village to be shipped to Brisbane via Moreton Bay.
In 1906 a Methodist Church was built not far from the school by the Caswell Family who had bought the Mahony land.

Canungra Turns Pink for Cancer
The flags are out on the main street as Canungra Turns Pink to raise money and awareness for the Cancer Council.
A initiative of the Canungra Chamber of Commerce and The Breeze, Canungra Turns Pink will see businesses and community organisations throughout the town rally together.
Ashely Palmero, Promotions Manager from The Breeze and Rebel Media said, “each year, the Breeze donates over $1,000,000 in advertising airtime to local charities and groups and last year we wanted to be hands on with a major fundraiser for the Cancer Council of Queensland.”

A lighter shade of pink
Turning Canungra Pink has been scaled back for 2020, with COVID-19 regulations impacting on the ability of the Canungra Chamber of Commerce to plan and run events.
Canungra Chamber of Commerce President, Monique Morcus, said the decision to limit events for the cancer fundraiser was made to reduce stress on businesses and volunteers.
