BEAUTICIAN Catherine Finch well remembers the day more than 20 years ago when a real estate salesman gave her the keys to her first salon.
She and her husband Steven, who grew up in the town, had moved to Canungra and Catherine was excited to realise her dream of opening her salon.
The real estate agent was not so enthusiastic.
“At the time he told me that a beauty salon in Canungra would never work,” Catherine said.
“Fortunately his dire prediction was well off the mark and after building up the business I sold it six years later,” she said.
Beautician duties then made way for family duties for Catherine as she settled back to the even more hectic life of raising three children, Ruby, Dusty and Sonny, while she also helped husband Steven with his earthmoving business.
As the kids got older and became more independent, Catherine went back to work as a beautician.
She operated out of a small space at Canungra Hairdressing for seven years and enjoyed seeing her clients again in a friendly environment in town.
Recently, when a shop became available right next door to Canungra Hairdressing, she decided to expand her business once again and opened Catherine’s Beauty Room.
“My new salon is a fresh new take of old school beauty mixed with new trends in skin treatments, lashes and brows along with all the favourites – nails, pedicures, waxing and spray tans; we are also stockists for Australian skin care brand ASAP and Eco Minerals makeup,” she said.
“Our clients are treated to professional service with a relaxed country feel where everyone is welcome and we just love a chat.”
Catherine has created a welcoming space in the new location which is beautifully fitted out inside.
A stunning chandelier is part of the entry statement in the reception area, with separate treatment rooms accommodating a variety of modalities.
She has attracted a number of team members who are highly trained in their chosen fields.
Catherine has invited locals to drop in and check out the new space at a VIP night on Thursday, September 26 between 5pm and 7pm.
