I have just returned from a trip interstate where I attended two Anglican Cathedrals in Launceston.
Both were amazing architectural brick buildings.
Each service was presented in a totally different manner.
One was a very traditional service; the large congregation was presented with an inspiring sermon, beautiful Easter hymns and everyone was made to feel welcome in God’s Kingdom.
The other service, while in a very traditional building, was quite different. Members of the congregation presented a large part of the service and the minister’s sermon was supported by a power point presentation. His message was inspiring for the active congregation.
As I attend St Luke’s in Canungra, I cannot help but compare these services with our services at St Luke’s.
Was any church better than the other? No. Although quite different, each church gave the same message, God is the centre of our worship.
The hymns at St Luke’s during Lent included ‘This is a Day of New Beginnings’. One verse I believe is particularly important as we witness the world in its present turmoil. The words of the verse say:
“For the life and death of Jesus. Love’s mighty spirit, now and then can make a world of difference as faith and hope are born again.”
Reverend Helen, our priest, used the following words in her Pew Reflections.
“In the midst of death, resurrection bursts forth and we are challenged to expect the unexpected and awaken to a world of wonders.”
Regardless of which church you may attend, the Christian messages are all Christ-centred and give the opportunity for each person to believe, have faith, love and to be free from sin and death.
St Luke’s is always active and welcoming to whoever enters. While we are not a Cathedral, God’s presence is there regardless of the size of the building. You are always welcome to come.
