I recently read on St Luke’s Facebook page a letter from Independent Senator David Pocock.
He stated, “Across continents and cultures, millions of people will fast, reflect, pray, gather, give thanks, seek renewal”.
For Christians he was referring to the period of Lent.
The article is well worth reading.
The key aspects of Lent include; it is a significant time to repent of our sins and focus on the celebration of Jesus’ resurrection at Easter.
The season of Lent lasts 40 days commencing on Ash Wednesday and concluding on Maundy Thursday, often with a commemoration of the Last Supper.
St Luke’s served dozens of pancakes to our school children after school on Shrove Tuesday, and this tradition marks the last day of indulgence before the time of fasting or giving up of some personal luxury, whether it be food, or something like social media.
Many people use the Easter period as a time to catch up with family and friends, to show their love for each other, but also it is a time of hope and joy and to recognize the significance of Jesus’ resurrection.
What plans do you have for Easter?
The plans for St Luke’s 90th Anniversary celebrations are well underway, and the weekend of October 17 and 18 will certainly be worth marking in your diary.
One exciting activity will be an Art Competition with entries based on paintings of St Luke’s.
There will be a major prize for the winning entry, along with prizes for the Children’s section. More details to come in the next Canungra Times article.
Little Lukies and SLAngers continue each Monday after School.
These activities offer food, fun and friendship to any child who come along. All children are welcome to attend.
