THERE will be something for everyone at the highly anticipated annual Tamborine Mountain Orchestra Christmas Concert on December 8.

The orchestra, which this year celebrated its 50th anniversary, will team up with special guests the Brisbane Latin Choir to present classic and contemporary pieces, including some with a Latin American twist.

The cross section of music will include pieces like Natal Verde e Amarelo (green and yellow Christmas), composed by Wilma Camargo, the John Lennon classic ‘Happy Xmas (War is Over)’ and the first part of the Bach Christmas Oratorio.

  • Canungra Law

‘You’re a Mean One, Mr Grinch’, Frosty the Snowman and Fairytale of New York are also on the list.

The concert is also the culmination of the group’s annual ‘Try out the Orchestra’ (TOTO) initiative, in which musicians are welcome to come along and join in whether they are beginner, intermediate or advanced players.

For TOTO, the orchestra has especially selected two pieces that are less challenging to play.

Those taking part in the free TOTO opportunity are invited to rehearse with the orchestra on Wednesday December 4 from 7pm to 7.30pm at Tamborine Mountain State High School, with a dress rehearsal from 9am to 9.30am before the concert on December 8.

Orchestra President Sanne Kreijkamp-Kaspers said the concert is free, but it is important to reserve tickets as event, held in the 250-capacity hall at Tamborine Mountain State High School, has sold out in previous years.

She said children are welcome under supervision and it is an opportunity to introduce youngsters to the orchestra.

“It’s such a variety of music, an opportunity to support local artists and it’s just a lot of fun,” she said.

The concert will be held Sunday, December 8 from 2.30pm to 4.30pm at Tamborine Mountain State High School on Holt Road and there will be light refreshments at intermission.
