The Tamborine Pony Club will benefit from a Scenic Rim Regional Council Major Community Grant of $5,000.

Secretary of the pony club, Melinda Hughes, said they were very lucky to receive the grant, and it would ensure the grounds continued to be well maintained for riders.

“For the last seven years we have added money towards the grants we’ve received for the ongoing grounds improvement program,” she said.

The approximately 18 acres will be fertilised and aerated to stop the ground compacting and improve the facilities for the horses.

“This is really important for the horses. A hard ground can jar and damage horses’ ligaments and tendons. We have a really good surface now,” Linda explained.

The Club has been going since about 2005 and now has about 70 members, and, although not a huge club, Linda said it is a very active one with members ranging in age from three to 72.

The pony club holds two rallies a month as well as training days and competitions and zone gymkhanas.
