Riding for men’s health

WE’RE COMING: Get set to welcome a convoy of classic motorbikes and their dapper riders on Sunday, May 18.

WHEN local residents awaken to the roar of motorbikes arriving on Tamborine Mountain on Sunday, May 18 they can rest easy knowing those riding into town are not members of a notorious biker group.

In fact these riders are all distinguished gentlemen and will be dressed accordingly when they arrive on their classic motorbikes.

It’s all part of the annual Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride which unites classic and vintage style motorcycle riders from throughout the world to raise funds and awareness for prostate cancer research and men’s mental health.

The group, established more than a decade ago, is focused on bringing people together, encouraging them to connect with their fellow gentlefolk and to ride together in their finest attire to raise awareness for Movember.

The Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride was founded in Sydney by Mark Hawwa after he took inspiration from a photograph featuring classic suits and vintage motorcycles,

Mark decided a themed ride would be a great way to combat the often-negative stereotype of motorcyclists and connect the global motorcycling community.

“We also knew we needed to do more for men’s health and that’s why we partnered with the world’s largest men’s health charity, Movember,” Mark said.

Local motorbike enthusiasts Glenn Harrison, Tracey Harrison-Hill and Ali Saoirse, are co-hosting the Tamborine Mountain DGR which is now in its fifth year.

The Tamborine Mountain ride is sponsored by Cinnamon Bun on Gallery Walk, St Bernards Hotel, and Eagle Heights Hotel.

Registrations to take part in the ride are now open on the DGR website www.gentlemansride.com
