YEARS of lobbying has come to fruition as the Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) begins reshaping and sealing the unsealed gravel section of Beaudesert-Nerang Road between Mundoolun Connection Road in Wonglepong and Biddaddaba Road in Biddaddaba.
The work is the result of decades of lobbying by the Biddaddaba Action Group, led by George Massam and Robert Cawley, with State MP for Scenic Rim Jon Krause also lobbying strongly for the project since he was elected in 2012.
The scope of works start at the intersection with Elysian Fields equestrian facility and head west towards Biddaddaba Road.
Project works include bitumen sealing and safety improvements including lowering the crest/curve of the hill for better visibility. New line marking will be installed for the full length of the project. Double barrier line marking is to be installed through the curve and broken single line marking through to Biddaddaba Road intersection in the straight section. This new line marking will also improve safety.
TMR commenced construction on April 14, 2025 and the work will take approximately six months to complete.
Closure of the unsealed gravel section of Beaudesert-Nerang Road is required for the project, with a detour in place and access maintained for residents and emergency services.
This $5.2 million project is funded by the Australian and Queensland governments.
