A total of 25 Scenic Rim residents took the final step in their journey to becoming Australians at a citizenship ceremony held on Tuesday, June 18, at The Centre Beaudesert.
Scenic Rim Mayor Tom Sharp welcomed the new citizens, who originated from countries including the Philippines, Indonesia, the Democratic Republic of Congo, the United Kingdom, and New Zealand.
“For 25 members of our community, this event represents a milestone in their journey from immigrant to Australian citizen,” Cr Sharp said.
“Whatever our origins, our Australian citizenship is the common bond uniting us all.”
Among the recipients was Carolyn Evans from New Zealand, who moved to Benobble in January.
“We were looking at places on the Gold Coast, but they were too expensive,” she said.
“Then we came across a turnkey house and land package in Benobble. It’s been a great decision.”
Carolyn said the area’s peaceful nature and friendly community made it feel like home.
“It’s such beautiful scenery and so quiet and everyone’s really welcoming,” she said.
“We always love spending time at the local cafes.”
She described the ceremony as a warm and memorable experience.
“I was most impressed. It was so lovely, and they even put on an afternoon tea. It made the day feel really special.”
Local performer Susanna Colley provided entertainment and sang the Australian National Anthem and Mununjali Elder Aunty Roslyn Uke delivered the Welcome to Country.
Since 2018, the Scenic Rim has welcomed new citizens from more than 55 countries.
