As the final curtain calls for the 2025 sports season, The Moriarty Park Sportsperson of the Month for December has been awarded to local goalkeeper Masyn Prosser, following a highly successful debut season in competitive soccer.
While many athletes take time to adjust to the transition into representative-level sport, Masyn’s first year in the Football Queensland Academy League One with the Rochedale Rovers was marked by consistent performance and team success.
Playing in one of the state’s most competitive youth tiers, Masyn was a key fixture in a Rochedale Rovers defense that proved difficult to beat. Throughout the season, the team managed to keep clean sheets in over half of their matches.
This defensive reliability helped the Rovers secure the Premier League title after finishing on top of the ladder. The team followed up their regular-season success by winning the Grand Final, ending the year as both premiers and champions.
Beyond the outdoor season, Masyn also extended his skills to the Futsal court. After being selected for the Broadwater District team, his performances earned him a spot in the U13/14 South Coast Futsal representative side.
Competing against other districts from across Queensland, the South Coast team performed strongly throughout the tournament, ultimately taking out first place.
In a recent highlight during the Football Queensland Academy League 2 competition, Masyn demonstrated his versatility outside of his usual goalkeeping duties. With his team tied 4-4 in the final minute of play, Masyn moved forward to receive a pass from the wing, scoring the decisive goal to secure a 5-4 win and a first-place finish for the side.
The December award serves as a wrap-up to a busy year for the young keeper. However, his schedule remains full as he prepares for the Gold Coast International in January. The event will bring together top-tier youth teams from Australia and New Zealand, providing a high-level start to the 2026 season.
