Harry Barnes and Pam McAllan are the Canungra Area Golf Club’s Matchplay Men’s and Ladies Matchplay Champions respectively.
To win these titles, Harry and Pam had to first qualify and then beat their opposition in every round to become Matchplay Champions. This is an outstanding achievement, made even more notable as Harry and Pam are both over 80 years of age
Ray and Peter Hickson:
Canungra Bowls Club members, Ray and Peter Hickson, have achieved a remarkable milestone as quite possibly the oldest active couple in the world of lawn bowls, with a combined age of over 180 years.
Ray and Peter began playing at their local club and quickly became fixtures in the Australian lawn bowls scene.
Over the years, their partnership on the green has mirrored their partnership in life—built on teamwork, communication, and a touch of friendly competition.
Ray and Peter are celebrated not only for their longevity but also for their skill.
Both have competed in numerous tournaments, often as a mixed pair.
Among their accolades are regional championship titles and several local club awards.
“Lawn bowls is such an inclusive sport,” says Ray. “It keeps you moving, challenges your mind, and brings you into a wonderful community. Plus, it’s something Peter and I can enjoy together.”
