On Monday, 10 March 2025 at 9 a.m., by which time cyclone Alfred had dwindled into a mere puff of wind bringing some residual showers on the hill, Tamborine Mountain Community Care Association (TMCCA),had no Energex power restored as yet. Manager Geoff Marshall, fired up the new KUBOTA generator for TMCCA to open their doors to public for purposes of offering –
- charging stations for their medical devices, mobile phones, iPads, tablets, battery packs, torches/lamps, etc.
- warm cups of coffee / tea (only as warm as Kubota would permit)
- drinking water
- Companionship
- Information on diverse aged care services matters as well as problem-solving other current disaster/ emergency-related issues
- Social support for individuals via welfare checks (by phone calls to all vulnerable clients at first, then the rest of the clients (as many as could be reached with such poor phone signal)
- Welfare checks by visits to the houses of vulnerable listed seniors who were living alone
- Calling the ambulance for the injured or very disturbed cases
- A hub for Meals on Wheels volunteers to distribute meals
- Some daily sanitary facilities (washing hands and face, toilet)
TMCCA would like to offer a standing ovation to the team at the Eagle Heights Butcher whose hearts are bigger than the sun and whose delicious sausage sizzles (with varieties of sauces, onions and hot cuppas) were offered to one and all, at no cost. So, thank you Stuart Kenny, Chelsea Bray, Bailey Bray, Zac Bray and a certain Glen (you know who you are) who just rocked up on the last day to help out with the BBQ. You kept us going with morning teas to carry on our work at Community Care.
TMCCA would also like to offer our heartfelt gratitude to the adorable Sharon Kimpton, owner of the Cinnamon Bun Café and Fudge Haven (Gallery Walk) for her overflowing generosity and yummy, endless supply of Cinnamon buns and varieties of fudge. Thank you Shazza! You are a true-blue Tamborine Mountain Community soul-sister!
Also thank you to Nev and the awesome Chainsaw Warrior troops – so grateful for your timely, hard work and care for the seniors and others on our hill. Bravo!
Also, a massive thank you to Cr. Amanda Hay and your team. You are legend! Grateful to have you as our Councillor.
Thank you, Energex for restoring our power!
The Comeback is certainly stronger, together!
