It’s that time of the year again where the community comes together for the Turning Canungra Pink campaign.
The month-long initiative has been running in October since 2010 after local business owner and breast cancer survivor Di Crooks decided to start it to raise awareness for all types of cancer.
The community took a liking to Di’s cause and the Chamber of Commerce became involved a few years later, growing the initiative to last throughout the whole month.
Turning Canungra Pink is a beloved campaign with a series of fundraising events and collaborations dedicated to ‘turning’ the town pink.
Now under the banner of Community Cancer Care, the mission is to provide a big warm hug from the community for locals undergoing cancer treatment.
Community Cancer Care formed in 2022 as part of the evolution of the Turning Canungra Pink with various family-fun activities in store this year.
Events including the Pink Kids Markets, Pink Three-Person Ambrose Charity Golf and the Canungra Campfest will be featured during October.
The Darlington Range Walk is the signature event this year and involves a five kilometre walk along the beautiful Darlington Range on 28 September. The walk is suitable for most fitness levels and all ages.
Ninety per cent of the funds raised this year will go towards helping local people through their journey with cancer.
The remaining 10 per cent will be donated to Hopewell Hospice which has been selected as this years’ charity partner.
Hopewell Hospice is a palliative care facility which offers support to ease the stresses for people and their families on hospice.
Community Cancer Care encourages people to take the opportunity to hold events at any time of the year.
