On Sunday 8 October, the Scenic Rim Uniting Church held its inaugural Annual General Meeting.

The Scenic Rim Uniting Church was formed when the former Beaudesert and Canungra Uniting Churches merged in October 2022.

Both the Beaudesert and Canungra churches have a long and proud history in the region, with the Beaudesert Methodist church opening in 1908, and the first Methodist church services being held in the Canungra district in the home of Mr and Mrs Henry Franklin in 1882.

During his report at the AGM, Chairman of the Scenic Rim Uniting Church Council, Steve Moriarty, noted the historic nature of the meeting, being the inaugural AGM of the Scenic Rim Uniting Church.

“The merger has been some years in the making and there has been a lot of work done to formalise the process, not least the combining of financial accounts, and I commend the work of our treasurer, Peter Venz, in this space,” he said.

“The Scenic Rim Uniting Church Op Shop in William Street continues to thrive, and is not only a valuable source of income for the church, but also performs an important role in ministry.

“Through the Op Shop, the Church reaches out to many in the community in need by providing affordable clothing and other items, as well as being an outreach service during Tuesday morning coffee and chats.”

“Likewise, Tracey’s Pantry has established a valuable partnership with

the Food Bank and continues to provide food for those in need each Friday afternoon at the Beaudesert Church.”

“Both Canungra and Beaudesert hold weekly worship services on Sunday mornings, at 8.30am in Beaudesert, and 10.30am in Canungra, along with bible study and prayer gatherings weekly.”

“In an exciting move, the church has recently engaged an architect to design a plan for the fu- ture development of the Beaudesert Church precinct.”

Steve also acknowledged the work of the Scenic Rim Uniting Church minister, Rev Dr Je Cheol Cook and his wife Yun Young, who work tirelessly to support church members and others in the community.
