Our last two nominations for 2021 Sportsperson of the Year are Jimmy Tomlinson and Col Lee.
Jimmy is one of the most talented soccer players ever to grace Moriarty Park field and a much respected asset to the Canungra Owls Mens Team and our club.
In 2021 Jimmy took out Canungra Owls Player of the Year; Canungra Owls Mens Golden Boot; Canungra Owls Mens Coaches Choice and Football Gold Coast Mens Metro Golden Boot having scored an astonishingly high number of goals for the season.
We have watched Jimmy come through the ranks at Canungra and it has been a pleasure to watch him mature into a tremendous player, showing all the attributes we encourage and nurture as a club, as well as a lovely young man; an absolute credit to his family.
He is a great ambassador for the game and looked up to by the younger players wishing to aspire to his level.
Top job Jimmy!
Canungra Bowls Club have nominated Col Lee as a Sportsperson of the month, joining the club as an older member but throwing himself into the game whole heartedly and successfully.
In 2021 Col achieved the Most Improved Player of the Year.
We have a lot of things in the pipeline for the year but are a little apprehensive still with the COVID situation.
A food trucks event has been suggested, in the next couple of months hopefully and we are discussing having a circus around October after soccer season finishes, so look out for those.
Our new notice board will be up by the time we go to print on the wall at Moriarty Park, provided to us by Bendigo Bank; thank you very much to them; it will be super to at last have all the great classes and events we hold there advertised for all to see.
Trivia
A trivia night is planned for Friday 11 February. Cost is $5 per person, maximum six at a table.
These nights are sponsored by the ever generous and amazing Foodworks.
Always appreciative of all they do for us. Book with Bren on 0414435919 / bren.dalby@bigpond.com.
Sportsperson Awards
Talking of Foodies – our Foodworks Sportsperson of the Year awards night will be coming up.
A date will be decided soon and advertised by usual means and all nominees advised.
Paint and Sip
Kate Kinsela has held a couple of Paint and Sip nights at Moriarty Park, one of which I was lucky enough to attend.
This was a great value night of fun and painting and I can’t recommend it enough.
Kate is planning to hold these regularly so again please look out for the next one!
Facilities
A new shed , perimeter fencing and, grant permitting, female change rooms are on the cards for us and then we can really get serious about the skate park.
We are sorry it is taking a long time but we are hopeful we can get cracking soon. We are a small committee who work hard to try to get stuff done but there is a lot of ‘stuff’!
Please bear with us and be ready to help when we hold a fundraiser for this massive project; we always have more chance of achieving grant funding if we are seen to be actively fundraising for the cause and that the community is backing it.
Our meetings are the third Monday of the month at 6.45pm.
Everyone is welcome to come along and will be most welcome.
