Organisers of Canungra’s Christmas celebrations are calling for stall holders and local musicians to be part of a special event on 1 December.

Canungra’s Christmas Markets will be held from 5pm to 8pm and give people the chance to buy gifts locally, from local businesses.

Trish Wilson from Country Mile Escape is one of the organisers and said this is the second time the Christmas markets have been held.

She is looking forward to seeing many home based businesses sharing their wares with the community.

“We are aiming to have stalls spread out throughout the town,” she said.

“We are inviting artists, people who work from home or anyone who sells items that would make great Christmas gifts to get in touch about having a stall at the Christmas Markets.”

Market stalls are only $20 each and will be selectively placed along Christie Street, Kidston Street, through to the 4275 Collective’s location in Appel Street.

“We have kept the stall fees very affordable so that local people with smaller businesses can come along.  We hope it will be a great opportunity for people to buy Christmas gifts locally and catch up with each other in town.”

The markets will coincide with a Christmas concert in D J Smith Park, with local singer and guitarist Jack Anderson and his band Goatmilk already signed up to play, and other local musicians invited to take part.

Everyone is invited to bring a picnic blanket or chair to D J Smith Park and join in with Christmas carols and songs in the park.

There will be a special visit by Santa during the evening, with the opportunity to get a photo with the big man in red for those who would like to.

“People can either bring along a picnic or buy some takeaway from the local cafes, restaurants and of course the Canungra Hotel,” said Trish.

“It will be a great night and we are looking forward to having a huge Christmas celebration in the town.”

The Christmas Markets and associated concert will be very family friendly.

Trish thanked the Canungra RSL Sub Branch for giving permission to use D J Smith Park and Moriarty Park committee members for jumping on board to help make this Christmas an extra special one in Canungra.

The event is being organised by the Canungra Chamber of Commerce, in conjunction with Moriarty Park Community Sporting Centre, and both organisations are calling for local musicians to be part of the Christmas concert.
