The newly chartered Scenic Rim Toastmasters Club held its first Club Speech Contest in October, with new member Trish Scott taking out first place in both Table Topics (impromptu speaking) and International Speech Contests.
Julia Schafer achieved first place in the Evaluation and Humorous Speech Contests.
It was then on to the Area 24 Contest where the ladies competed against the best speakers from five other clubs in the area.
After joining Toastmasters just 18 months ago, Trish took home second place in Table Topics and third place in International Speech Contests, competing against Toastmasters who had years of experience under their belts.
Trish came to Toastmasters to improve her public speaking skills but has noticed it has had profound effects in her work life as a Real Estate Agent, giving her the confidence and skill to speak effectively in group and individual situations.
In addition, she has honed her leadership skills through taking on the club role of Vice President in charge of Membership.
Julia took away two second place medals for her efforts in both Humorous and Evaluation contests.
Since moving to the Scenic Rim just two years ago, Julia has utilised her proficiency in public speaking to take on many MC roles.
If you are looking to improve your Public Speaking skills and want to learn how to prepare and deliver effective speeches with confidence, Scenic Rim Toastmasters will host a free Speaker Workshop early in the new year – keep an eye out for the event in the local community Facebook pages.
