Welcome to my first ‘Councillor Comment’ as the new Division Three Councillor for Scenic Rim Regional Council.

I would like to thank everyone for their messages of congratulations and words of support since being elected. It is an honour to be serving the community in which I was born and raised and have called home for most of my life.

I have certainly hit the ground running and it has been a pleasure travelling around Division Three, and indeed the whole of the Scenic Rim, to engage with as many people and organisations as possible. Over the past few weeks I have attended AGMs or ordinary meetings at groups ranging from Hillview Memorial Hall to the

Canungra Law

Beech Mountain Association on Beechmont, and all points in between. It is clear that our region is home to many dedicated and committed volunteers and I commend the work that all of these organisations do to keep our local communities strong and vibrant.

I attended the launch of Eat Local Month at the Kooroomba Vineyard and Lavender Farm and this year’s event promises to be the biggest and best yet! While Eat Local Month attracts thousands of visitors to our region, I certainly encourage locals to take the opportunity to explore the many offerings provided. It was a privilege to represent Division 3 at both the Canungra and Beechmont Service on ANZAC Day. All services were very well attended and, as always, caused one to reflect on what it means to be an Australian, especially in this time of increasing global unrest. It is so important to remember those who have served our country in the past and made the ultimate sacrifice, so that we can enjoy the freedom we do and live in this beautiful part of Australia known as the Scenic Rim. Lest we forget.

I look forward to meeting many more locals and community groups in the near future, whilst representing our region and working together to achieve the best possible outcomes for our communities.

Best regards,

Steve
