REMEDIAL massage therapist, Ray Adolphus, has returned from the World Massage Championships in Copenhagen, gaining invaluable experience and a top ten position.

This was the second time he has attended the Championships, and this year he prepared a structured 60 minute routine for the event, Enliven21, which he perfected during a period of intense training.

“Training for something like this is challenging because it is routine and sequence based, so you don’t get too many opportunities to execute the whole routine too many times, as you can’t really practice this on customers,” he said.

He competed in his areas of expertise – Sports Massage and Facial Massage. He made the top ten in points in the Facial competition, with judges impressed by his knowledge and execution.

“The key thing that differentiated me from the rest of the competition is the fact that my routine is a very practical and functional sequence.”

“I enter this competition for two reasons really, firstly to win, second, to ensure that I benchmark myself against the very best in the world,” he said.

“Benchmarking is important to me, as it allows me to achieve treatment outcomes and customer service that are set by European standards.”

Ray continued to impress in the Sports section with his Enliven21 routine.

“It was unique and simple but needs a little more optics and flair to make an impact visually.”

“Competitiors usually display their very best optical work, so it can be a very showy exercise, just like a car show or a fashion show.”

“Moves and techniques that are rarely used in everyday treatment are shown to the judges.”

“Enliven21 is a 60 minute program that I can use in every day life to help people condition the seven key muscle groups, along with the nervous and integumentary system, bringing space and flexibility to the musculoskeletal system.”

“I will officially unveil Enliven21 in Copenhagen, get feedback from the Judges and hopefully score good reviews, then I will offer this to my customers.”

“If you do things that the public want and you win on it, then it’s a winner twice – everyone gets a benefit.”

“Overall, my strengths were knowledge and execution. Weaknesses were not enough optics.”

“I will be back next year.”
