IGA Canungra will open its doors at 6am on Monday 30 October.
After six months without a supermarket, locals are excited to be able to shop locally for groceries.
Deli products and hot food will not be available when the store opens, due to different regulations for the Gold Coast and Scenic Rim Regional Councils.
Store Manager, Duane Fry said on the Gold Coast, where the company has other IGA stores, a store has three months to apply for their food licence.
“We are still waiting for Council to come back to us with the Food Licence. In the Scenic Rim you cannot open deli and hot food until you have that certificate,” he said.
“I was going to delay opening until we had the food licence, but I don’t want to do that to the locals. I would rather open without the deli and hot food and let them have somewhere to shop than stay closed for a week or two more.”
The opening of the IGA will also see Lotto tickets able to be purchased in store.
IGA Canungra will be open seven days a week from 6am to 8pm.
