BREAKING: Fire in Sarabah valley

A fire started late yesterday in the Sarabah valley, south of Canungra.

A lightning strike in inaccessible country ignited the vegetation fire on Mount David, about half way down the valley.

Canungra Rural Fire Service are currently looking at options including back burning to stop the fire.

There is no threat to residences or infrastructure at this time.

The Scenic Rim local government area has a total fire ban in place until 11.59pm on Thursday 2 November 2023, this is expected to be extended.

The fire ban means:

  • ​The lighting of fires are prohibited subject to any special conditions or exemptions.
  • All open fires are prohibited.
  • All Permits to Light Fire issued in the designated area are cancelled.
