News from St Luke’s

In June, St Luke’s received wonderful news from the Scenic Rim Regional Council, our application for a grant to upgrade the church electrical system had been approved.

The old switchboard and wiring were over 80 years old and had been added to over the years.

So much so, when too many appliances were turned on at the same time, the circuit breaker would trip.

This was particularly embarrassing if it happened during a church service, or worse still, during a wedding or funeral.

The church building is listed in the Scenic Rim Local Heritage Register and our biggest concern was an electrical fire could result in the destruction of this beautiful building.

In July, local electrician Tristan Siegertsz installed a new modern switchboard and upgraded the wiring to accommodate all the current appliances and those well into the future.

Thank you, Scenic Rim Regional Council, for approving our application, and to Tristan for such a great job. We will no longer need to wonder what has happened when the power has suddenly gone off.

Our next exciting fund-raising function to be held at St Luke’s will be a High Tea, to be held on Sunday August 11, from 2 to 4pm. The cost is just $25.

You are most welcome to come along and enjoy scrumptious food, live entertainment and some worthwhile raffles. Please contact Jan 0404 114849 to reserve a seat.

Don’t forget if you have children, Little Lukies is held each Monday afternoon from 3pm to 5pm and all primary students are welcome.

Every second Friday evening the SLAngers group welcomes high school students to come and enjoy food, fun and activities between 5pm to 7pm.

Thank you to the people who have kindly donated food for our pantry, set up for people in need. I am sure the recipients of those pantry foods are truly grateful. It is great to work together to help others in need.

Stay warm and enjoy many blessings.
