SRRC 2024/25 Budget

As Scenic Rim’s Portfolio Councillor for Sport and Recreation and your Division 3 representative, it is great to see programs and projects that contribute to a healthier and more active community supported in Council’s 2024-2025 Budget.

A major win for the Canungra community has been funding totalling $420,000 for a much needed upgrade and resurfacing of the tennis courts and the installation of new field lighting, at Moriarty Park.

It is also pleasing to see the 2024-2025 Budget allocation of $2.16 million for the ongoing upgrade to Beechmont Road. These works represent a significant investment in the accessibility, safety, and efficiency of this road that continues to see increased traffic volume between the Canungra and Beechmont. Council is grateful to the Queensland Government for its contribution to this important project, which totals $743,983 under the Transport and Infrastructure Development Scheme.

Community Meeting

Thank you to all who attended the community meeting about current and future developments in Canungra at Moriarty Park on May 30.

Residents had the opportunity to ask questions and voice their concerns about the rate of development and associated lack of infrastructure. I will continue to advocate strongly for a masterplan for the Canungra township that addresses the ever increasing traffic and parking issues, and protects the village atmosphere for the benefit of local residents and tourists who frequent the town.

Eat Local Month

I had the pleasure off attending two Eat Local Month events in Canungra during June.

Both the Long Lunch at O’Reillys Canungra Valley Vineyard and the Feast in the Valley at Country Mile Escape, were sold out.

While the food was certainly delicious, these events were also informative, and an outstanding promotion for the produce of our region.

Well done to both venues for hosting such wonderful events!

Sealing of Beaudesert-Nerang Road

It was great to hear the news that funding has been allocated for the upgrade and sealing of the gravel section on Beaudesert-Nerang Road at Biddaddaba.

This is a state road and not Council’s responsibility but I, like the many other users of the road, will appreciate the improved safety and reduced wear and tear on vehicles as a result of these long overdue works.
