BROTHERS Levi and Matthias Gricks-Phillips raised over $1,000 when they shaved their heads as part of this year’s Shave for a Cure.

The two boys are members of Scenic Rim Regional Cadets and the organisation was proud to support the boys through the event, allowing them to do the shave at one of their regular training nights.

“We were originally going to grow our hair long and Mum said we should do it for a cause,” said Matthias.

Mum Carmelle described the experience as a win-win.

“They got to experience long hair but they also had an end date and raising funds will help other people as well,” she said.

Before being shaved, the boys’ hair was put into plaits so it could be donated to a charity that makes wigs.

While both the boys had approached their mother about growing their hair long initially, Matthias said he did not enjoy the maintenance involved and was looking forward to having it shaved off.

Two other members of the Cadets also shaved their heads on the same day.

Canungra barber Evan Morris from Old Souls Barber volunteered his time to do the shave, with the boys’ father, Craig assisting.

The end result is a huge difference from the long locks the boys had grown in the lead up.
