After a very long season that had many highs and lows, the Owl’s men’s team have made it to the Grand Final of the Division 2, South Coast Community League.
The team had a strong start to the season, winning four of their first five games before being rocked by injuries.
The rest of the season was a grind and the boys had to dig deep to keep in touch with the teams at the top of the ladder. After finishing the season with three wins from their final few games, the men’s team were able to grab fourth spot and qualify for finals.
On Wednesday 23 August the team travelled to Pimpama to play their semi-final.
After a very physical and hard-fought game they were down 1-0 until the very last kick of the game, where Tom Foster-Ash popped up in the box to bury home the equaliser for the Owls, sending the game into a penalty shootout.
After a save by Owl’s keeper Rodney Collins on Pimpama’s third penalty kick, the men’s team went on to win the shootout 5-4 and move onto the Grand Final.
The Canungra Owls Men’s team will play the Grand Final at 7pm on Wednesday 30 August against Nerang at Glennon Park, Recreation Drive, Nerang. They would love the support of the Canungra locals to make it a Grand Final to remember.
